I met Michelle at The Cadets in 2003. It was both of our first years as a part of the corps. She taught me all 5 summers I marched and was a huge part of my Cadets experience. It would not have been the same without her. She had such a calm, no nonsense, and get stuff done energy. She inspired me. She inspired me to be my best. And she inspired me to be a great teacher. I always want to be "the Michelle" for each of the students I teach.
I had a rough beginning in 2003. One day at Spring Training I finally had a huge personal victory. I was able to get through the entirety of Rocky Point, the closer of the show and an iconic piece for The Cadets. I needed to share this victory with someone and that someone was Michelle. I went to her immediately. It was such a great day and I am so glad I got to share that tiny victory with her. She was always wholly invested in her students' success. I trusted her, I respected her, and I loved her.
Rest easy Michelle. I'm so grateful I got to be taught by you and then to call you my friend. You inspired me to be my best and I promise you that's something I'll carry with me always.
