Here’s a neat story about Michelle I just remembered. It was July, 1999. 8 years after I left the Corpsmen, and 1 year after I left the US Army Field Band. The Corpsmen were practicing at Cole High School, on Ft. Sam Houston, here in San Antonio, my last duty station in the Army. (Imagine the irony.) My second cousin was in the cymbal line that year. So I’m walking around, and I just happened to come across this young lady who looked somewhat familiar. As I’m standing there, trying to process who she is, and why I thought I knew her, she proceeds to come up to me, give me a hug, and say hello. It was Michelle. She was on staff that year. This was at a point in time when things were not exactly great in my life. So to have an old drum corps mate come up to me, give me a hug, and say hi, that meant a lot to me at that time. That’s one memory that I will always have with me.
