I left Cobb in 2003 to do my Master's full-time at IU. I had some major homesickness sometimes, wondered if leaving had been the right thing, etc. One of the summers I was up there, either '03, '04, or '05, I drove with some friends to the DCI regional in Indy. On the way, we stopped at a high school to watch Cadets rehearse. I don't know why I didn't think of seeing Michelle there, but there she was. She yelled, "Fred!", and I was so excited Big hug. We talked on the sideline for a long while. So long, I felt like I was pulling her away from reh.earsal. But she didn't seem worried. She said, "Ah, don't worry about it", and we continued catching up. It was the most pleasant surprise seeing that beaming, smiling, familiar face that day and spending time with her. Made me feel at home again, normal again. I don't think I ever told her how much that meant.
