The first time I met Michelle was in 1997. I really got to know her in 1998 when I marched Field of View. Her smile always made me smile. She had a presence I always admired. I remembered her from the years watching her in FOV and it always stuck with me. I wanted my floor presence to be like hers. When I returned in 1999 I was a little nervous and when I went in for the "interview " part she immediately said "Susie", So bright and cheery. Any nervousness I had left and I was so happy to be welcomed back. She asked me questions like, "was I ready to lead?" instead of if I should even be there and I knew I had arrived and I knew that was because of her! That year was weird for Field of View and many staff bailed but she took over and I was able to march because of her. Michelle ran that year. I know it was hard on her but she did it and I was always grateful to her for it. It was not the greatest year but I learned a lot. This picture is of the staff that year that did stick it out with us.
In 2001 I married my husband, a marine and she called me to see what I was up to. She wanted to see what I was doing that summer. She wanted to see if I wanted to march with a guard that had a spot. I could not(obviously newly married and living in California) but again I was floored she thought of me.
That was the thing about Michelle. She made you feel special about yourself when she was with you. She was this amazing spirit and person. I adored her. I loved her. If you knew her you could not help but love her. I feel lonelier in the world knowing she is no longer here.
I am grateful to have met her. I am grateful to have loved her. I am grateful for her presence in my life. You are a beautiful angel! I love you Michelle. I will miss you. Till we meet again my friend.
