To whom it may concern,
I'm writing this letter of support for the nomination of Michelle Owens to the Crossmen Hall of Fame, submitted by Jeff Sacktig. I've known Michelle virtually my entire life in the drum corps activity. We were rookies together in the 1990 Crossmen, marched three wonderful seasons together, and then taught the Crossmen together from 1997-2000. She was, and continues to be, one of my favorite people to have ever come in contact with, not just in drum corps but in my entire life.
As anyone who knew Michelle could tell you, she had such a positive impact on everyone. I can remember so many times as a member of the Crossmen when things weren't going so well, whether it was a broken down bus, or not enough food to eat, or extra long rehearsal days in excruciating heat. These were the times when I personally found it difficult to continue, and even more difficult to stay productive and focused. But all it took was the most brief interaction with Michelle, and not only would you forget about all those hardships, you'd forge ahead with a smile on your face. In fact, it was impossible not to smile when you were around her. It was contagious, as was her laugh and her positive energy. I firmly believe her contribution to the overall morale of the entire drum corps during those glorious years was monumental. Always there to talk to, to offer emotional support and leadership by example, Michelle's impact on the Crossmen in all ways was significant.
When we taught together, I also got to witness her relentless desire for excellence and the way every single member of those magnificent color guards she worked with adored her and respected her. They would walk through fire for her, and that influence simply cannot be put into words. It continues on to this day and has spread to color guards of all experience levels all across the country.
Michelle's life was cut tragically short as we all know, but the legacy of her life and her spirit will continue on forever in all who knew and loved her so much. It is long past time she be honored in the Crossmen Hall of Fame, and as a member of the Hall of Fame myself I offer my complete and unwavering support for her induction.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
